Is it rude, to the other, if I tell one of my 2 teachers that I like him/her better than the other?

Am learning Eng w 2 teachers at once. They are both British. I made a compliment to one that I like her better than the other one. Does it necessarily mean I respect the other less or anything bad towards him? Is it rude to say so? How would my teachers interpret it? I meant nothing as such. Yet one of my friends misinterpreted and thought I wanted to praise one by letting the other down.
