An old friend is helping organize a event for international breakfasts. I suggested she should include Native American breakfast when I saw it missing in the categories. When she asked for some dishes, I immediately pointed to grits without hesitation...but when she asked me if traditional Native grits are any different from Southern variations, I was stymied.
I know that sweet vs. savory is mainly personal preference, but are there some very definitive grits flavors and toppings that Natives prefer to have with their grits in past and present?
Also, if there are more suggestions for Native breakfast recipes, we'd love to hear about them!
Thanks!
