Unlike the other nailers that we have reviewed over the years, a roofing nailer serves only one true purpose - nailing down roof shingles. The pneumatic (air driven) roof nailers are powerful tools and are universally used by all roofing contractors around the United States. The leading brands are Bostitch, Hitachi, Milwaukee, Senco, Porter Cable, and Paslode. The #1 selling coil roofing nailer on Amazon.com is the Milwaukee 7120-21. In head to head comparisons, the Hitachi NV45AB2 was rated best by professional roofers and other reviews noted that the Bostitch RN46-1 was the leader. All were within a $100 of each other in price, but certainly the Milwaukee nail gun gets the most sales online because their price is the cheapest and the customer reviews are excellent for that model. Which roofing nailer is right for you? Depending on the daily requirements on the nailer - each serves it's own purpose quite nicely.
In general, you want a roofing nailer to be simple to load, fire off nails without jamming, have great "feel and balance" in your hands, and drive the nails in with power. You should be able to switch from regular to contact actuation without much difficulty and depth adjustment needs to be simple. Every other kind of nailer we found has a cordless option available, but we could find nothing in the cordless roofing nailer category. I think they used to exist but in reviews, we found online most pros said they were useless and not worth the $$$.
