Ancient spiritual texts like the Shiv Purana and the Devi Bhagwatam are replete with the numerous therapeutic properties and the spiritual significance of these herbal beads. The various colors, shapes, sizes and the number of cuts, called mukhis, determine the value of the bead. This helps to determine its significance in treating different ailments.

Rudraksha beads emit different frequencies, which correspond to a specific planet and divine energy they represent. These frequencies resonate with respective chakras and bring them to their natural harmonious state. It helps one to find out his true inner powers and potentials to achieve all that one desires in life. It makes an individual view life situations from a new perspective, deal with them constructively and finally achieve inner peace and bliss.

It is supposed to be either worn on body or worshipped by keeping it in the altar. However as per ayurveda, besides wearing Rudraksha on different parts of the body, it can be used as oral medicine too. It destroys worms and gives brilliancy to the human body. It pacifies vaat (air), pitta (bile) and cough naturally. Rudraksha paste is a good medicine for skin diseases, sores, ringworm, pimples boils, burns etc. Rudraksha and Rudraksha powder (crushed entire fruit) is the most useful for BP. If a 5 mukhi rudraksha is, overnight soaked in water in a glass vessel, such water when consumed in the morning can bring BP under control. Research even talks about drinking milk, boiled with 4 mukhi rudraksha, can heal diseases related to brain and mind.
