Its mostly because most of the founding ideas of religion and society came from Greece. Greece was a center of art, literature and government. Examples of which can be found throughout the modern world. Like the columns from Greek architecture. Or the forms of democracy found today. Or even within Greek myths and how the myths were taken by other cultures and changed for their own purposes. Like how Poseidon is portrayed with a trident, but so is the devil. Or How Charon from Greek myths looks almost exactly like the grim reaper. Basically, the Greeks were the first people to have a highly sophisticated culture of their time, which is why it is often called the mother of all civilizations.
