Turtle Beach Earforce XLA Xbox 360, Why is my headset not giving audio out?

Ok so I checked all of the cords to make sure they are in the right place, and mu voice in not muted on my xbox 360 as I CAN use other mics with the same controller, user, xbox 360 etc.... when I have the head set plugged into my controller I have a dim but noticeable buzz coming through the head set. Also I can hear my voice when I speak into the headset but no one can hear me. when im in a party with the headset plugged in my xbox 360 doesn't even acknowledge my headset being plugged in with the little speaker thing by my gamer tag. If anyone can think of something I might have over looked I would love the get some feed back. Thanks for your time.
