How can I fix my samsung galexy alpha and what is actully wrong with it

My samsung galexy alpha wont send or recive texts or phone calls it keeps saying theres no signal but I would have 3 signal bars (not wifi) and I cant get 4g anymore is there anyway I can fix this as it was a gift from my dad and he got an ex colleuge to get it so we have no papers
