How to fix my Honda Foreman 500 Electric Shift?

I have had problems with my Honda Foreman 500 Electric Shift. It quit shifting and the gear indicator started flashing. I saw how to perform a test where you press down the shift keys, turn the key on, release the keys, then press them again. After performing this the 4x4 indicator flashes 5 times and the gear indicator flashes 3 times. I know this means something but I don't know what it means.
