Accused of plagiarism thought I feel it's wrong, help?

I have been accused by my school of plagiarism.

The situation is as follows:

The required assigment was a discussion post (so not a research paper).

I included a paragraph and straight at the end of the paragraph I cited the source (e.g. paragrapgh (source: Author XY. (2005). XY publication. XY title. Retrieved from www.xy.xy)).

So, even though I cited the source for all the information I included in the paragraph, the school accuses me of plagiarism because I did not put the whole paragraph under quotation marks.

What shall I do? I really don't feel that I plagiarized as I included the source for my information after the paragraph!!! I need help.

I don't know what to do because I believe that as a student, you are always going to be the loser if you appeal against a prof or a school.
