If you were a college admissions person what would you think about this?

I'm applying to a range of schools, some rather competitive and some less so. My college essay is about overcoming depression due to my fathers passing and how it affected all aspects of my life for a few years, ex. grades. My GPA goes like this, soph: 2.41 jr: 3.17 sr: 3.74 and my ACT composite is a 29, enligsh 31, reading 31, math 27, science 26, and writing 11. Do I have a chance at schools like BU and Santa Clara even though my accumulative GPA is shit?
