Xbox 360 to pc not working PLEASE HELP!

Hello! I used this guide (http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Your-Xbox-360-Controller-for-Windows) to try to connect my Xbox 360 controller to my PC. I installed it and plugged everything in, I hit run and typed joy.cpl. It took me to correct screen, but it should say Xbox 360 controller and properties should be highlighted. It does not. What am I doing wrong? HELP!

I have no idea. I don't currently have an Xbox 360, but I have in the past. I would think that you wouldn't need programs and things to make it work; all I would do is plug it in to the USB or whichever slot thing it fits in and open my game. Usually, games let you select which controller you want to use, for example, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. So it really depends on what game you're trying to play. :)
