How do moderates play a role in shaping public opinion?

I need to know how being a moderate can influence how people think about the government.

im not 100% sure if this is a solid answer, but I believe being a moderate could influence public opinion through the belief in both ideologies, conservatism and liberalism. it allows for both ideologies to be seen, in a way, through one ideology. also there may be less split-ticket voting and more consensus? I also needed help on this question for my ap nsl homework so I really can't give a solid answer so I apologize if this wasn't helpful. good luck! :)
