When can my soldier in basic training start writing?

My boyfriends away at basic training. He left the other day and he said he'd write me as soon as he can, but I was just curious as t when that would be. I'm guessing about four days since I read that's how long the processing takes and then they'd be able to call home to give their company and all. helpful, clear answers would be greatly appreciated, thanks. :)
