Unfortunately, many people are coping with unemployment. My husband was let go after being with a company for 10 years, and I was a stay at home mom. So the thought of having no income was frightening. But I found comfort in an article I read called, "How to survive on a reduced income." There were some really helpful suggestions. One was count the cost. Luke 14:28 says: "who of you that wants to build a tower does not first sit down and calculate the expense, to see if he has enough to complete it?" Applying that would mean to make a budget and stick to it. Another was adjust your lifestyle. Proverbs 22:3 says: "A shrewd man sees trouble coming and lies low." To accept a lower standard of living is undoubtedly a challenge, but it is necessary. Another was to be open to new types of work. That can be challenging, especially if you are use to a certain type of work. I hadn't work in 10 years and I wanted to find a certain type of job. So I had to be humble and look outside the box. So I found a job in the fast food industry. Its not ideal but it helps to support our family. Also learn to be content. 1 Timothy 6:8 says: "So, having food and clothing, we will be content with these things." Because things could get much worse. So we have to learn to be content with just the necessity.
So this truly helped me and I hope it can help you. If you would like to read the entire article go to www.jw.org and select publications, then online library and type in unemployment. Also that website tells us the hope for the future from the bible how unemployment will be a thing of the past. Enjoy!!
