How do I know if my best guy friend likes me?

He's like my best friend practically. Next year we will be in highschool. I don't know what highschool I'm going to yet, but I don't want to separate from him. He blushes at school a lot, he sticks pens and markers in my hair and smells my hair (just mine), and I always catch him staring at me. If I see him do that and I look into his eyes it only lasts a second than either him or me look away. What does that mean? I'm only 14, does it mean I like him or he likes me? I've never really had someone that I feel like this about.
