Answer if you know a lot about police and what not, need help!

One of my friends stole £150 out of a cigarette packet and left the packet here, it was stolen out of my own home, so will the police do anything? Will they check the fingerprints and what not? Or will they not bother... Please answer me this is really important! Thanks
