Why would my mother in law introduce my husband to an affair partner

My husband moved back home last year for a trial separation. We have two young children. I found out recently that he is dating his mothers friend from work and that she arranged their meeting. This woman is very similar to her in looks and interests. I am not asking why HE would do this. I am asking why She, a mother would encourage the destruction of a marriage, and the break up of a family.
