Modern supermarkets have computer systems that crunch the numbers everywhere from ordering the products to point of sale systems built into their scanner equipped cash registers. Some are real-time systems where management can view sales minute-by-minute. Those systems are capable of categorizing products and sales in principle like a spread sheet would do it but I seriously doubt you will see anybody in a supermarket entering data in a spreadsheet. Products and money flow through supermarkets too quickly to keep up with the flow of data using a spreadsheet.
