Locked iphone

Hi, I have an iphone 5 and I went through a really complicated day yesterday. It ended with me not knowing my passcode to my own phone. :( I don't mind resetting my phone, but there are several photos I would like to keep. I've tried importing the photos onto my computer (an old dell inspiron), but it keeps on saying that it doesnt see any new photos or videos. If any of you know an answer to why this is happening, please answer below. Thank you very much.
