How do you teach your cat to walk on a leash?

I have tried it before, and it doesn't really work. He is a very playful cat, and LOVES to play fetch. How do I teach him to walk on a leash?

Cats are very independant animals. They hate being on a leash unlike dogs who put up with it. Why do you want to put him on leash? To take him outside for walks? I wouldn't recommend you put him on a leash if he doesn't like it.

I agree. It the cat hates it, don't force it. I've actually never met a cat who would tolerate a leash... but I guess some cats must, or there wouldn't be instructions for how to do it...
You can't really teach a cat how to walk on a leash but you can put him on a leash and just let him wander around in your backyard or something.

My cat loves going outside on his leash

Training cats can be simple, as long as you understand how cats learn. They each learn differently depending on the experiences they've had. Depending on these experiences your cat may enjoy doing what you teach him or may dislike it entirely. It all depends on if his past training experiences were good or bad. Of course, the attention span, intelligence, and even curiosity levels of your cat will help to determine how quickly easy he will be to train.
