In a Direct Current (DC) circuit, current flows from negative to positive.

In a 60 cycle AC circuit it flows from negative to positive for 1/60th of a second then reverses and flows from positive to negative for 1/60th, then continues the reversing over and over. That's why AC is called, "alternating current"
