Hard disk drive partition

my iap is Toshiba Satellite c600 Laptop 500gb hdd ,2gb.ram ddr3 I installed win 7 ultimate 32bit using hdd as a primary partition without partitioning. after finish my installation I used disk management to make partitions when I shrink the volume it allows to shrink 240gb why it took big volume for c-drive ?

If you have a 500 gig hard drive with two partitions, one at 240 gigs, that means the other is 260 gigs. That doesn't sound like one partition's that much larger than the other.

i just want to shrink much more volume and make c-drive 150gb
All of the partition managers I've ever used allowed you to select the size you want to create. Even the old FDisk utility that came with DOS did that. You could specify the partition size in bytes or as a percentage of the total disk space.
