Stop opening tabs when I download something

when I go to download something it will download and always open a new tab but it wont stop opening the same tab

I don't understand, "wont stop opening the same tab." Are you saying it keeps redrawing the page over and over, the page jumps up and down or it kweeps adding more and more tabs? Please edit the question and give a better explanation of what you're seeing and include what web browser you're using?
