What role does conflict play in group communication?

What role does conflict play in group communication? I need example(s) of group situations that illustrate conflict in group communication.

In a group, conflict can drag all of them down. Think of it as a team, each one of them will rely on the other to keep going. Every gear of a machine needs to be intact to continue to run. When, and if one person from a group weakens, the others can worry, and effect the process of what is at hand.

The US Congress and the United Nations are both examples of conflicting opinions being communicated in a civil way...most of the time. When organized properly, conflicts can be used to perfect solutions in a group. Disorganized conflicts can be destructive to a group as mofoandtheho accurately describes above.
