How do I obtain an ip address for my surviellance system

i have an 8 channel dvr with a 2 terabyte sata drive and 4 cameras. I wanted to be able to view it online w/out hooking it up to my laptop unless its easier to do so. any suggestions??? I have uverse with their router. am I able to just connect straight to their router via the ethernet cable?

U-verse TV is delivered through Internet Protocol Television (IPTV). Whether or not that's just AT&T's brand name for IP addressing or it's different, I don't know.

Look at the software that came with the security system. If it has that capability it should explain how to set it up. If the security system isn't designed for remote monitoring it would take huge engineering changes to make it happen.
