I asked this same question to some of my computer friend techies, just a couple of weeks ago! In my case, I had a computer hard-drive loss and could not recover my itunes files or music library. If I were to plug my ipod into my computer, the itunes software would remove the music on my ipod, that is not part of my itunes music library. Itunes does this to protect the music industry from people pirating copies of music.

It might be easier for you to get a back-up copy of your sister's itunes music library and import that into your own itunes music library, because if you install itunes onto your computer and plug the ipod in, everything will be lost when it synchs.

Otherwise, you can do (what my computer tech friend did for me). Download "Mediamonkey" and use that to pull songs off of your ipod. It will convert the files to mp3.

i have transfered songs from ipod to pc when I upgraded my pc. bascially you have to have more than half the total memory of your ipod available. you then turn it into a memory stick of sorts - the instructions are on I tunes - I recommend you print them out and follow them step by step.

If you want to know how to transfer music from iPod to computer, I suggest you the following steps:
http://iphone-ipad-ipod-music-transfer.blogspot.com/2013/10/transfer-music-from-ipod-to-computer.html
1.Switch the iPod to manual update. The first thing you need to do is verify that you have configured your iPod to enable disk use.
2.Open iTunes on your old computer.Connect your iPod to your old computer and wait for it to appear in iTunes.Select your iPod on the left side of the iTunes window under the Devices section to display your iPod preferences in the main library window.Click the Summary tab in the main iTunes window.
3.Click the Manually manage music button. Changing from automatic updating to manual puts a check mark by Enable disk use.
A message says "Disabling automatic update requires manually unmounting the iPod before each disconnect."Click OK in the message window.Click Apply at the bottom right of the iTunes window.
