Explain the opportunity costs the children face when they leave willy wonka's factory

For one the lost the opportunity to own a highly successful business and factory full of candy and magic. Another thing is after the left some of the children were most likely handicapped and/or emotionally scarred which would take away a whole lot of life's opportunities.
