Low-income Texas families can apply to the federally-funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to weatherize their home in preparation for the winter months. LIHEAP aids nearly five million U.S. households which are 150 percent below the poverty level or lower. According to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, Texas's Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) provides cost savings for 15 to 20 years and saves an estimated $413 per household on utility costs annually. Your family must meet income requirements according to household size to receive weatherization assistance.
