On his plaque, Boggs is wearing a Boston Red Sox cap. He caused controversy when he signed with his hometown Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 1998. Reportedly, he had a clause put in his contract that said he would choose the Rays hat when he got inducted into the HOF. At that time, the player was allowed to choose which hat they wanted to wear on their plaque. However, in 2001, the Hall changed the rule to give them the final say on what hat an inductee wears on their plaque.
