What is the nature of United States Law?

This is a learning target for a test I will be taking. It specifically asks "Discuss the nature of law and sources of law in the United States". I have figured out the sources, but I am not sure what the "nature of law" is. Is it the same as "natural law"? Or is it general characteristics of law? Here is a potential answer "Laws are enforceable rules of society that reflect the culture and circumstance that create them." - however I am not sure if it is correct. Please help! Thanks!
