3D printing is a process of making a physical object from a three-dimensional digital model, typically by laying down many successive thin layers of a material. It all starts with making a virtual design of the object you want to create. This virtual design for instance a CAD (Computer Aided Design) file. This CAD file is created using a 3D modeling application or with a 3D scanner. A 3D scanner can make a 3D digital copy of an object. Recently I have taken the services from Iannone 3D, which provides Rapid Prototyping and a reliable FDM 3D printing service in the New Jersey area.

3d metal printing is a process used to synthesize 3d objects with successive sheets of material. 3d metal printing is also known as additive manufacturing. Every 3d print starts as a digital 3d design file. This design file is sliced into thin layers which is then sent to the 3d printer. There are various 3d printing techniques available. Some methods like selective laser melting (SLM), direct metal laser melting (DMLS), fused deposition modeling (FDM) melt or soften the material to produce the layers, while methods like stereolithography (SLA) cure liquid material. 3d printing is widely used on medical industry for equipments designing and creating human organs. Commercial as well as military aviation engines are designed with 3d metal printing at companies like http://www.atlanticprecision.com/. It is also used in automotive and architectural industries.

3D printing refers to processes used to produce three dimensional objects created using computer-aided design (CAD) package via a 3D scanner, or by a plain digital camera and photogrammetry software. There are many 3D printing service provider who provides 3D printed objects. MakeWhale is one among the 3D printing service providers in India.

3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing (AM), refers to processes used to create a three-dimensional object in which successive layers of material are formed under computer control to create an object.

Objects can be of almost any shape or geometry and are produced using digital model data from a 3D model or another electronic data source such as an Additive Manufacturing File (AMF) file.

The futurologist Jeremy Rifkin claimed that 3D printing signals the beginning of a third industrial revolution, succeeding the production line assembly that dominated manufacturing starting in the late 19th century.

The term "3D printing" originally referred to a process that deposits a binder material onto a powder bed with inkjet printer heads layer by layer. More recently, the term is being used in popular vernacular to encompass a wider variety of additive manufacturing techniques.

United States and global technical standards use the official term additive manufacturing for this broader sense. ISO/ASTM52900-15 defines seven categories of AM processes within its meaning: binder jetting, directed energy deposition, material extrusion, material jetting, powder bed fusion, sheet lamination and vat photopolymerization.

The creation of a 3D printed object is achieved using additive processes. In an additive process an object is created by laying down successive layers of material until the object is created. Each of these layers can be seen as a thinly sliced horizontal cross-section of the eventual object.
