Need advice on setting mouse traps!

A mouse got into our house somehow. I bought mouse guard & victor spring mouse traps. I set them with peanut butter the last 4 nights & each morning the peanut butter is gone & only 1 trap even went off. I've watched several YouTube videos & see that the arm has to barely be in, but can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I have no experience with this kind of problem & I just want the mouse out of my house! Can someone tell me what I might be doing wrong in setting it to activate and how to get it right?

See a rat, a mouse, or any part of the rodent family or their droppings around your home, and immediately the hair stands up on the back of your neck. They can contaminate food, carry a number of diseases, and can wreak havoc to your surroundings.Rats and mice are from the rodent family causing significant damage and nuisance, as well as, potentially spreading disease. Pest control experts understand rodents, their behavior, and how to rid of them.
