Worried about snakes and gong camping in desert.

Ok I'm going camping for the first time this Friday. It’s in the desert and I'm scared of snakes. We are sleeping on cots in a sleeping bag but no tents. I'm worried about waking up face to face with a snake or having one in my sleeping bag. Any advice on how to prevent it? How often does it actually happen?

theres no way to unless you have a tent but look in sleeping bag first for scorpians and snakes
