Where is the last name "Abode" from? What ethnic group use this last name?

This is something I really want to know, but every time I've tried to look it up I keep getting abode as in home or house, I imagine it is said as if it's an "i" on the end instead of an "e". The person with the name was from England with an English-sounding first name makes it even harder. I have thought about it being Italian, but could it be English? Any information on the origin or origins of this name would be really helpful.
