Cost of replacing an existing tankless hot water heater?

I currently have a Navien tankless hot water heater installed in my home. It has unfortunately stopped working. I hired a plumber/heating repair technician and after troubleshooting with the company's service department, it was concluded that the unit is not longer any good. I am over my one year parts/labor warranty, but the unit itself is still under warranty, so that is good. My question is what is a reasonable rate to be charged for replacing the existing unit with the new one? The repairman was here for troubleshooting for one hour on Saturday, three on Tuesday after 4:30 pm - just to figure out the system needs replacing. Then, he was here on Wednesday morning to install a temporary 20gal, 120V electric hot water heater until the new system arrives. I paid him $985.00 for the cost of his time on all three days, the cost of the temporary heater (which was $580. just for the part) with installation. Now, he says when the new system arrives, the cost of installation and returning the old system back to the company will be between $400 - 500 and he wants the 20gal hot water heater? Does that seem about right?
