Finance, money transfers, bank clearing time

My girlfriends dad transfered a large amount of money £8500 from his bank in Australia to her barclays bank in the uk. The transfer was made 2 weeks ago and Barclay's told her that the payment was showing but she was unable to see it in her online bank account or withdraw anything because it had to clear.
2 weeks later, it still seems to be sitting there but she is unable to do anything and all the bank says is it should clear by tomorrow. She is getting really frustrated as she knows the money is there but for some reason unable to access it !
is this usual for an international transfer to take this long to clear ?

This is really a serious situation so I suggest you to seek a good and experienced lawyer that would help you with this situation. Since, you said that the money was from the bank of Australia I can recommend you a best lawyer. Give a ring 1300795575 or visit http://goo.gl/CWN7Kp.
