Selling a car in CA

The car was listed on craigslist and sold as is. The title was filled out, signed and given to the new owner. I mailed off the completed release form to the DMV the next day. About one month later the new owner re-sold the car. The new owner was having problems with the car and could not locate the person they bought it from (phone number disconnected). They came to me asking about the person I sold it to. The information about me was from the title they received from who ever they bought the car from. What can be done about this?
