A guy in college creeping me out.HELP.!

Well...there is a guy in my college who confessed a few months before that he likes my best friend..i didn't like him in the beginning but a few weeks ago we started talking..but for a few days he has been acting crazy and calling me 4-5 times every day at odd hours in the night..First he starts the conversation regarding studies and then suddenly starts talking about his family and friends..This is creeping me out as we hardly know each other yet..Why is he doing that? Is he trying to distract me from studies? How do I avoid him?
