Chicago public school vs Catholic school?

We're stuck on deciding between sending our children to a Chicago public school or Catholic school. The fact that Chicago public schools are overcrowded deters us. Is it worth it for us to send them to a Catholic school? Are the curriculums in Catholic schools worse vs public schools?

I would go for a public school. It may be more crowed but its a better chance for your kid to make more friends. Catholic schools mix in religion with science and they have religion classes which is actually a bit of a pain as it may bring down your kids average if he doesn't do well.
