Can my dancing pole permanently damage the landlord's carpet?

Can my exercise pole permanently damage the carpet? I have not screwed it into the ceiling, but I have tightened it a lot to keep the pole safely in place. I am in furnished accomodation and my landlord is concerned it may make a permanent dent. Can carpets get permanent indentations from quite high pressure, like dancing poles, on them?
