Touchscreen not responsive after it unlocks the screen

i have samsung galaxy s ,, and it seemed to work okay but today when I tried to open the phone I unlocked it and then the touch wasnt working on the home screen :/ the touch is only responsive for unlocking the phone and thn it can click only one thing and then its dead :/ its annoying I need to use it and its not allowing me to do so.. can u plz help me at this?
