What is wrong with my Microsoft Office Word 2003?

It was working fine 2 days ago but now when I try to open it this thing pops up and says "Perparing to install..." I wait a few minutes and then it says "This update package could not be opened. Verify that the update package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer update package." my only option is "Ok" but after that theres nothing else. To be far I'm only 13 so I really have no idea what that means. What is wrong with Microsoft and what do I do to fix it cuz I have some important things to write.

You can uninstall the current version and either re-install MS Office from the CD or, download Apache Open Office at the link below. It's free.
