What can I do about my blank screen?

Compaq mini cq10 101sa, windows xp home service pack 3...my screen won't come on at all, I had a virus on there a couple of days ago caused by avg's latest update so I removed the hard drive and put it on my other laptop to remove the file that was causing all the problems. It wouldn't start in safe mode at all so couldn't attempt a restore as it messed up the windows system so I kept getting the blue screen, now it has gone I thought that it would fix the problem but it didn't and now I can't see the screen at all, it doesn't even come on, I have tried connecting it to another screen via VGA and still nothing, I cleaned the ram connectors as well to make sure and that didnt make a difference it makes all the noises and has the lights that its supposed to but still doesnt show up anythingI don't know what to do, can anyone help ??

If you have a emergency startup disk or CD, try booting from it and see if you can see the C drive using the command, "C:" If you can't, retrace the steps of moving your hard drive and cleaning the memory to make sure that you have all of the connections secure and that there are no bent pins or damaged connectors.
