I can't change the brightness on my acer laptop

The hotkeys are not working anymore and from what I read on the internet I am supposed to update my BIOS. I tried to do so but I didn't exactly manage to, since the ACER website wouldn't provide me with a newer version for my BIOS. There is no other apparent way to change the brightness and the screen is to dim to properly see everything. What do I do? How do I update my BIOS?

this will only work on WINDOWS 7 but at bottom right their should be a battery symbol which tells you how much battery power you got left, click on it and it should say adjust screen brightness click that and use the scale to adjust it downwards, if it doesnt say adjust screen brightness it might say power saver option or some sort of option to save the battery as much as possible, clickign this may reduce the screen brightless, if not then sorry but gl

Since there is no other option in Acer laptops to update BIOS Settings, Re install the operating system and install all the mother board drivers along with launch manager.
