How do I know when the statute of limitations is up on a credit card?

I know the SOL for my state is 7 years, and it's already been 9 years. But how do I find out the exact date it began? I've heard that any contact with the creditor reopens the debt cycle, so I can't ask the creditor. I'm trying to figure out officially when the 7 years started.
