Is it a force out?

Bases loaded batter strikes out. Is runner on first a force or does he have to be tagged? Runner on first took off running.

If the batter strikes out, the catcher can throw to the first baseman and force the runner out if he is off the base just like a fly ball or, the first baseman can tag him out if both he/she and the runner are off the bag.
