What do animals think of when we choose them as our pets?

For instance,if we find a lost dog with a litter of puppies and we only choose the healthy, cute,or nicer ones and leave the hurt, ugly,or mean ones out in the wild all alone, what do the ones that are left behind think about us?
I don't have an answer and think that maybe you,the reader, can help me find out the answer.
Thank you,and GOOD LUCK!!!

It’s a lot of debate going on in the world whether animals have conscious mental experience or not. But If we think logically when they are in danger they frightened and when they are in good they feel relax.

Still, it’s very difficult to understand the conscious mental experience of an animal when we choose them as our pets.
