There are great differences between families where one parent provides the income and the other cares for the home and the children, families where both parents work, situations where the parents aren't married with joint custody and situations where only one parent has custody.

Within those frameworks, BOTH parents should do their best to care for and contribute to the lives of their children. That means work together for the benefit of the child, be part of their activities and support them financially and in any other way they can.

I feel the roll of the man should be to teach the children to treat people with kindness and respect. If you have sons, teach them how to respect women and to resect them no matter what the circumstances. That being a man means putting your family first. If they have daughters, I feel like they she teach them to value themselves. And that the no matter what happens with other men in their life, that their dad will always love and cherish them. If girls have a good dad, then they are less likely to look for inappropriate ways of be comforted or "loved" by other boys.
