He violated restraining order. what should I do?

I got a restraining order on my ex who I lived with. He had been looking into ways to drug me and harm me. He is mentally unstable. On the day that I got the order, the police found a knife on him.

Since the order, he violated twice. Once by turning off the utilities, the second time by contacting me through a false email address. I reported the violations and he was arrested. I feel bad because he likely will lose his job and face jail time. I just wanted to report the violations to keep myself safe and to document violations so that I can continue the protective order. What should I do now? Is there anything I can do to have them take it easy on him but still keep myself safe and him away from me? I dont want to ruin his life I just want him out of mine. Any advice?

A restraining order will do nothing to keep a mentally unstable person away from you and some argue that they inflame unstable people even more. They are valuable to the police if something happens to you but they are worthless as a protection device.

The ideal solution would be for you to find someone who can control him to live with you until you get through this.
