Are DVD burners safe?

I know this is a stupid question, and they don;t literally burn DVDs, but I'd like to know whether or not burners can damage DVDs - genuine concern because Star Wars is my life, and I don't want to damage it so that it never works again. :P

Unless there is something mechanically wrong with the DVD burner, it will not damage it. Scratches from handling them do the most damage.

Hmm, well I, personally, have never used one but my older sister has and it turtned out ok but if you wnat to be extra careful you can get another set to be burned just to be safe.
